[info]im_not_there is a journal devoted to Todd Haynes' upcoming film on Bob Dylan,
I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan.

After making the festival rounds, the film is expected to have a U.S. release in November 2007, so at this point it is truly suppositions on Suppositions. Those of you familiar with my livejournal on Velvet Goldmine, [info]vardathemessage, will have an idea of the way we will explore connections between film & music and the filmmaker & performer.

Synopsis from the 64th Venice International Film Festival:

Bob Dylan – like most of us – was never just one guy. During the sixties alone he was in constant change: musically, physically, psychically. But unlike most of us, Dylan’s changes were played out on an international stage, against a backdrop of social upheaval, and with cultural and emotional repercussions rarely evoked by a popular entertainer. I’m Not There dramatizes those changes as a series of shifting personae, performed by seven different actors. From the young aspiring minstrel evoking Woody Guthrie, to the “folk prophet” of early sixties Greenwich Village; from the modern day Arthur Rimbaud to the folk-rock “Judas” plugging in electric; from the counterculture icon struggling to preserve his marriage or the born-again Christian grappling with morality to the lone cowboy in a self-imposed exile from his own controversial fame – I’m Not There is a portrait of the artist in flux. Set against the shifting backdrop of the 1960’s and its aftermath, and evoking the cinematic styles of that era, I’m Not There is above all a musical odyssey. Blending classic recordings from the breadth of Dylan’s career with fresh interpretations from a wide range of contemporary artists, the interweaving stories are each reflected in wide range of Dylan’s music, the songs that continue to define the times in which we live and the rich unending journey of a true American icon.
